On Easter Sunday, a church where I was once an intern will close after 105 years. Part of the problem was COVID, the cause of many a church closure. But the larger problem is that Mainline churches are closing at a faster clip than new churches are being opened.
Can progressive faith communities still plant churches?
The video version of Episode 83 is now up. In it, I chat with Paul Moore, the founding pastor of Chain of Lakes Presbyterian Church in Blaine, MN. We talk about the challenges of planting a new faith community and why it has become harder for Mainline Protestant Churches in planting new communities.
Check out the essay I wrote about mainline church planting. It's adapted from a 2012 blog entry. Sadly much has not changed.
